This piece was made in the 90s in a small workshop in a small town in Valencia. The rods are made one by one, entirely by hand, as are the natural mother-of-pearl inlays, as well as the burin decoration and painting.
“Baraja” is the term we refer to when a fan is made almost entirely of wood or other materials without “pais” (textile) in its upper area.
The sound when opening and closing this fan is similar to that of a deck of cards, which is why this term was coined for this type of fan.
